ANTS and HUMANS

We find two black ants walking along a typical ant trail having an atypical conversation.

“Well Andy, I just think there is more to life than plodding along these boring trails and hauling these huge stones out of the ant hill!”

“Yes, Aaron, I know how you feel, but to claim that there is a supreme ant who rules all, knows all and created all of this is just preposterous!”

“Don’t you think that there is a supreme ant watching us? I mean, look around us. Consider those blades of grass. They go on forever up into the sky, and did you see those cookie crumbs Alice found last week. How can you say there isn’t a supreme ant when such provision for our winter months is made possible?”

“Yeah, Yeah, but how do you explain the meaninglessness of our existence. We are born in the bosom of the earth, tended by who‑knows‑which‑ant and then released into this continual bondage of labor. How could a supposedly ‘all‑knowing, all‑caring’ supreme ant dream up such a burdensome life?”

“But look at all the things we get to experience, serving each other, bonding in war against the red ants across the pasture, raising our young and seeing them grow strong. Don’t forget all of creation that surrounds us. How amazing it is, the seasons of the year, the warmth of the sun, the gentle glow of the moonlit night. There has to be a supreme ant watching down on us.”

“I don’t know, it just seems to lack meaning.”

Andy and Aaron scurry along the ant trail that leads onto a huge hard black surface.

“Now take this for instance Aaron. What supreme ant in their right mind would place such a barren piece of rock in the middle of this field? I mean look at this ugly black surface. The only thing which breaks the monotony of it all is that huge yellow line running down the middle of it.”

Arguing profusely Andy and Aaron fail to see the large black circular object bearing down upon them. The full weight of the huge metal car crushes both of the delicate black ants as the wheel of the car passes over them.

The Lord God thinks to Himself;

“I’m not sure who is more confused down there, the animal creatures I created or my beloved race of humans. There are too many similarities between them. Mankind scurries around ignoring the evidence of my creation, rejecting the testimony of my Son and rebelling against the ministry of my Spirit. They might as well be deluded ants if they don’t seek my love and grace.”

Romans 1:19‑23

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities‑his eternal power and divine nature‑have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.”

Acts 4:10‑12

“It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,…Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
